Academic Experience

Key points

OISE has long experience in training high school students for their entrance applications into Business Schools and Hospitality Management Schools.

The tuition is intensive and bespoke, to allow it to be adapted to the specific needs of the learner.

The one-to-one method allows the teachers to act as a personal coach to the student and this delivers fast results and also allows for the tutors to train the student in the specific areas which are the most meaningful

Goal
Objectives of the study

Course objectives

To develop the English language skills and the soft skills needed for a career in international luxury hospitality management.  Most students join the course after leaving high school and after they have obtained their place at Hospitality Management School.  Alternatively, some students attend the course before they have gained their offer of a place at Hospitality Management Business School.

Programme

15 or 20 hours per week.

Intensive for accelerated progress or for specific purposes, this method coaches the learner and creates strategies to identify obstacles and realise their personal ambitions.

One-to-one lessons allow the student to receive a personalised coaching in the nuances of the language needed in order to deliver a very high level of customer service in the hospitality industry.

Lesson content from a wide range of areas (history, literature, current affairs) builds cultural awareness which develops the learner's self assurance and their ability to interact with an international audience.

    • Core skills lessons which equip students with the necessary skills in grammar, comprehension and accuracy.  And coaching in communication skills which transform learners into bold and fluent users of the language.

    • Lesson content is academically challenging, and students interact with new ideas and approaches through the use of authentic materials from a range of academic subjects. Students are exposed to subjects such as literature, history and economics and acquire mastery of the language through broadening their knowledge of these topics.

    • The discussion of current international affairs and topical issues in the classroom allows students to develop skills in speaking, expression and debate in tandem with widening their worldview.

    • Homework tasks are set daily to allow learners to reflect on and consolidate what they have learned in the day, as well as prepare for the next day.

Many homestays have been welcoming our students into their homes for many years, offering their hospitality and expanding our students cultural horizons. Homestay arrivals are on the Sunday before the course begins, and departures are on the Saturday after the course ends.

  • 'I have been offered a place at the EHL school but I wanted to do a short course of English this summer, before I begin at EHL.  It has been useful for me because I wanted to work on my weak points and I think the course will be very busy and so I wanted to build my confidence at the beginning.  I feel to get started now.'

  • 'My family is in the hotel business and I want to join it too.  I need to take a degree in hospitality management in order to take a management position in my family company.  I am looking forward to taking the course.  I have chosen the 'English' path of the university course and for that I have to achieve an IELTS score of above 6.0 so I m working on my English level now to make sure that I get the score I need.'
