Who is this course for?
This intensive one-week course is designed for teenagers who want to speak English with greater clarity, confidence and expression. It is ideal for students who wish to improve their pronunciation and articulation, become more confident when speaking in front of others, or develop a more polished and effective speaking style.
Whether the learner tends to speak too quickly, finds certain sounds or words difficult to pronounce, struggles to project their voice, or simply wants to communicate with greater confidence, this course provides focused support from experienced tutors in a fully immersive English-speaking environment.
Outcomes
The aim is not to remove a student’s natural accent, but to develop clear, intelligible and expressive speech that can be adapted confidently to different academic, social and professional situations.
Clear speech is an important communication skill, yet many students have had little opportunity to study how the voice actually works. During this intensive programme, students spend an entire week developing the techniques, awareness and confidence needed to become more effective speakers.
With 30 hours of tuition, supported by guided practice and independent exercises, students receive continuous coaching, individual feedback and repeated opportunities to speak. They learn how pronunciation, articulation, breathing, pace, stress and intonation work together to create speech that is clear, engaging and easy to understand.
The course combines tutor-led workshops, individual coaching, pronunciation exercises, reading aloud and practical speaking activities, allowing students to make measurable progress in just one week.

Newbury
Newbury is an historic market town about an hour from London and also within easy reach of Oxford, Winchester and Bath. Dating from the 11th century, the town has a population of around 30,000 and boasts a beautiful town centre with a picturesque canal and superb facilities including a wide range of shops, cafes and restaurants. In addition there is a modern local cinema, excellent theatres and a whole host of sporting opportunities.
The course includes extra-curricular activities such as social evenings, movie nights and hobby clubs.
Freedoms and permissions: pupils will not be allowed to leave the school premises or leave the group during activities unsupervised, unless they are over 14 and the school has received parental consent. The full supervision and curfew policy is available on request.
The level of supervision at Newbury is structured to keep every pupil safe: the accommodation is attached to the teaching building within the same fenced grounds. Throughout the stay, pupils enjoy a high staff / student ratio: the minimum of one adult to 15 pupils is often increased up to 10 and sometimes 5.
