Programme

German for academic ambitions

The programme promotes language skills, self-confidence and fluency, and offers the opportunity to explore a wide range of topics. Students explore areas of linguistic interest, develop academic awareness and learning autonomy.

The course programme is aimed at pupils who achieve good grades in German at school and want to gain an insight into academic content. The programme is open to learners of all levels. Pupils repeat and practise the basics of the German language, develop their language comprehension and gain a high degree of confidence and fluency in the language.

Discovering academic and university learning content in the environment of the elite University of Heidelberg promotes the academic awareness of the pupils.

  • Course content

    • Language accuracy

    Daily exercises that deepen understanding of grammatical structures, punctuation, pronunciation and vocabulary. (5 hours per week)

    • Clear comprehension

    Exercises and tasks that develop listening and reading comprehension. Targeted written and oral assignments that learners must complete within a specific time frame are part of the course. (5 hours per week)

    • Writing and speaking skills

    Learners develop their production skills through daily writing and speaking assignments that help them improve their accuracy, clarity and style. (5 hours per week)

    • Academic ambitions

    Students work on project assignments of academic interest (natural sciences, literature, economics, geography, politics). The aim is to promote academic awareness and enable students to give presentations on the topic. (2.5 hours per week)

    Self-study

    Learners work on self-study projects to develop their individual language skills and language awareness and achieve their personal learning goals.

Half-board homestay

Accommodation with a host family includes half board for all students. All participants are accommodated in single rooms. Breakfast and a hot dinner are taken together with the host family. Hosts are families with children, but also single people or retirees. Each host family is carefully selected and checked.
