One of OISE's longest running summer centres, Swindon is located approximately 1 hour from London by train. Situated in the county of Wiltshire, this old market town was the centre of development of the railways in the area.
OISE's philosophy of total language immersion plays an important role, meaning the whole learning experience is structured to teach relevant vocabulary and expressions, and to provide constant opportunities for students to reinforce what is studied by applying it to natural, real-world situations, both in the classroom and outside of it.
OISE Swindon is based in the Walcot area and is a contemporary building with excellent sports facilities, complementing the many leisure amenities, restaurants and cinemas as well as parks and museums.
The Intensive Summer curriculum is a full time course of 27 hours of tuition per week, with a maximum of 8 students per class. Through this course, we aim to develop in our students an intellectual and social understanding which will lead to a fulfilling life, both personally and professionally. We do this by delivering a full day of learning which focuses on language, academic literacy, subject literacy and social and cultural fluency.
The Cambridge Exam Preparation programme delivered by OISE is a full and intensive course of 27 hours per week which practises all areas of English tested: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Real past papers are used by experienced tutors to familiarise students with the various demands of the exam. Students also learn to adapt to time restrictions and practise good study techniques. The Cambridge Exam is arranged to take place at the end of the course.
One evening per week there is a social activity for all students, such as a film night, bowling, barbecues, talent shows, quizzes, casino nights. Excursions include trips to London with visits to Covent Garden, the Science Museum and Harrods, or a day in Bath or Oxford.
The designated airports for Swindon are London Heathrow and London Gatwick. Our dedicated and experienced meet and greet teams look after the students and ensure their safe onward transfer.
To benefit from the free transfer service students should arrive 10.00 - 19.00 on Sundays and depart 12.00-19.00 on Saturdays. Outside these times private transfers can be organised at a supplement.
The majority of students arriving in London will be taken to our nearby Welcome Lounge to join with other students for their school and then travel together to Swindon. Whilst at the welcome lounge they can relax in a secure environment and enjoy games, activities and refreshments.
Swindon is home to Brunel's railway works that have been restored and remain an integral part of the town's heritage. The historic old town still largely exists and is complemented by modern cultural and entertainment complexes, including a pedestrianised shopping street and a retail outlet with excellent facilities. Just outside Swindon, there are picturesque villages to explore.
