A typical day at OISE Swindon

Morning programme 09.30 to 13.00
The morning lessons are designed to develop accuracy in the language and cover:
• 09.30 to 11.00 – the grammatical structures of the language – vocabulary building
• 11.00 to 11.30 – morning break
• 11.30 to 13.00 – formal comprehension training exercises – structured expression training exercises:
Lunch 13.00 – 13.45
Lunch is taken at the school in the form of a packed lunch.
Afternoon programme 13.45 – 15.15
Afternoons are devoted to workshops designed to encourage fluency and a spontaneous use of the language:
• guided debate practice
• presentations
• exchange of ideas and experiences
• active listening practice
• letter, memo, note writing
Afternoon break 15.15 – 15.45
Late afternoon games 15.45 – 17.15
To relax after concentrating on language learning pupils take part in games and sports activities; the range of which will typically include:
• team games such as football, cricket, volleyball
• sports games such as tennis or squash
• treasure hunts
• board and card games
• museum visit
• photography
These group activities encourage pupils to make new friends.
Dinner 18.00 – 19.00
Students return home at 17.30 to have dinner and spend the evening with their host family.
Evening programme 19.00 – 22.00
On one evening per week a social activity such as a disco or a barbecue or a party is organised for all students.
Saturday: excursion and culture familiarisation
Saturdays are devoted to a full day excursion to a place of interest and fun.
• visit to a capital city
• visit to a place of historic or architectural interest
• outing to a theme park

Clothes/sports equipment
Students are recommended to prepare for good and bad weather and bring enough warm clothes. British summers are not very predictable! Students should bring suitable sportswear, whitesoled footwear for sports halls, swimwear, towel and a sports bag.
