Heidelberg is one of Germany's oldest and most picturesque towns, situated on the River Neckar. It is a town steeped in history, the oldest private house built in 1592, and the university, originally founded in 1386, re-constructed in the beautiful Baroque style.
Its famous castle dominates the skyline and provides wonderful views over the Neckar Valley and Heidelberg itself. The cellar houses the Grosses Fass, constructed in 1751, the largest barrel ever filled with wine, holding 221,000 litres! In commemoration of historic occasions of its destruction, the castle is illuminated with lights and fireworks during the summer festival.
Heidelberg is renowned for its cosmopolitan atmosphere, arising from the large number of international students at the university, its science and research centres, and the 20,000 or so resident foreign nationals.
The OISE school is situated on the top floor of a modern building, with a beautiful roof terrace from which students can enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
