This is the key theme for the 6th annual summit on education held in Doha, Qatar. Every year radical thinkers, important decision makers and innovators from around the world come together to share their ideas, research and inspirations in order to rethink education.
Today, half way through the three day summit, the focus is on practical creativity with the title: “Imagine - Create - Learn. Creativity at the Heart of Education”, a topic that has seen a lot of coverage and research in the past year. From high profile speakers to creative stages and interactive presentation the summit attracts more than 1,000 pioneers in the field of education. The event also celebrates an annual WISE Prize for education, publishes WISE books and promotes a WISE Learner’s Voise to encourage student and youth participation. Many of the themes that are being discussed this year are greatly aligned with the OISE approach. Here are a few of the highlights:
A positive approach goes a long way. Gloabally this is an issue in terms of high drop out rates in schools and disengaged students. WISE Speakers from Mr. Paul Collard, CEO of Creativity, Culture and Edcuation to Ms Vicky Colbert, founder and director of Escuela Nueva Foundation will be sharing their innovations and findings around the importance of motivation and engagement for teachers and learners alike from their experiences.
This is an equally essential point for language learning and a reason many approaches to teaching a foreign language are ineffective. At OISE we understand that drive and motivation are key elements for success in learning a foreign language. That is why the OISE academic board ensures an engaging, diversified and rigorous curriculum to push each participant on their level to achieve the very best.
Talks and discussions around this topic focus on pushing for a shift away from traditional approaches to education towards tailored, personalised and individual alternatives. This is one of the key strategies that are promoted throughout OISE courses for professionals, students and young learners. The small classes or individual Tutorial tuition ensure that all the attention of the teacher can be directed to the exact needs of each participant. With a large repertoire of highly skilled and experienced teachers we are often able to match a client from a specific industry or employment field with a teacher who has extensive personal experience working in this area as well. This enables a unique knowledge transfer rapid success results.
Teachers and Creativity
This theme explores the range of challenges facing teachers and tutors in education today and looks at what is needed in order to unleash the creative potential as much as possible. Luckily old models of “talk and chalk” are increasingly being replaced by more interactive, innovative and digitalised approaches. All OISE Centres are fitted with the latest teaching and learning technology from interactive whiteboards, Conference rooms to perfect the art of meetings and fully fitted lecture theatres for weekly presentations and public speaking practice. Many Training Centres also use video interactively as a way of improving body language and presence, a key factor for fluency in a foreign language.
These are just a few of the innovative and forward thinking themes that are being discussed between 4th - 6th November in Doha and will be challenging the way we think about education in the future.
